چکیده
Membrane-Mediated Self-Organization of DNA Origami In article number 2101094, Alena Khmelinskaia, Eugene Petrov, and co-workers find surprisingly strong surface-mediated interparticle attraction otherwise repulsive origami particles on locally deformable lipid membranes, resulting in spatial self-organization. On the cover, authors contrast two different worlds (macro nano) with very laws, however a similar phenomenon: bundling “logs”.

Polydopamine-Supported Lipid Bilayers
We report the formation of lipid membranes supported by a soft polymeric cushion of polydopamine. First, 20 nm thick polydopamine films were formed on mica substrates. Atomic force microscopy imaging indicated that these films were also soft with a surface roughness of 2 nm under hydrated conditions. A zwitterionic phospholipid bilayer was then deposited on the polydopamine cushion by fusion of...
متن کاملTitration force microscopy on supported lipid bilayers.
The use of chemically modified atomic force microscopy (AFM) probes allows us to measure the surface charges of supported planar lipid bilayers with high sensitivity through the force spectroscopy operation mode. By controlling the chemistry of the tip, we can perform a classical analytical chemistry titration where the titration agent is a weak acid (attached to the AFM tip) with the particula...
متن کاملArrays of mobile tethered vesicles on supported lipid bilayers.
We report a new system of laterally mobile, arrayed vesicles that are encoded with DNA to control tethering to fluid-supported phospholipid bilayers. The motion of individual fluorescently labeled vesicles, specifically bound, are easily visualized by fluorescence video microscopy and observed to collide reversibly on the surface. This system is an ideal model for studying interactions involvin...
متن کاملSelf-assembly of filopodia-like structures on supported lipid bilayers.
Filopodia are finger-like protrusive structures, containing actin bundles. By incubating frog egg extracts with supported lipid bilayers containing phosphatidylinositol 4,5 bisphosphate, we have reconstituted the assembly of filopodia-like structures (FLSs). The actin assembles into parallel bundles, and known filopodial components localize to the tip and shaft. The filopodia tip complexes self...
متن کاملTransport, separation, and accumulation of proteins on supported lipid bilayers.
Transport, separation, and accumulation of proteins in their natural environment are central goals in protein biotechnology. Miniaturized assays of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) have been proposed as promising candidates to realize such technology on a chip, but a modular system for the controlled transport of membrane proteins does not exist. In this letter, we demonstrate that standing surf...
